WHY SHOULD YOU DO A SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH IN THE AMAZON?

The Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Social and Qualitative Research (LIPeSQ) is located in Manaus, the largest city in the Amazon region of Brazil. LIPeSQ is a research group that focuses on social and qualitative research related to health, with a particular emphasis on neglected tropical diseases. Our team has expertise in conducting research on diseases such as malaria and HIV, as well as exploring the social and cultural factors that affect health outcomes. 

Indigenous health in Brazil is a complex and pressing issue that has historically been neglected by the government and society. The indigenous population faces discrimination, marginalization, and a lack of access to healthcare services. Our research group working closely with indigenous populations in both urban and non-urban areas and publishing important articles on neglected diseases affecting these communities.

QUALITATIVE RESEARCH

We conduct qualitative research using different analysis approaches. We have equipment for data collection and software such as MAXQDA, NVivo, and AtlasTI. 

mHEALTH INTERVENTIONS

We have conducted studies on implementing mHealth tools, such as using SMS to improve adherence to malaria treatment.

HEALTH EDUCATION MATERIALS

Validation with patients and healthcare professionals, development and consultancy for training healthcare professionals, caregivers, and others.

WHERE WE WORK

The Fundação de Medicina Tropical Dr. Heitor Vieira Dourado (FMT-HVD) is a non-profit organization based in Brazilian Amazon that focuses on improving the health and well-being of individuals and communities affected by tropical diseases. The organization aims to achieve its objectives by promoting scientific research, conducting clinical trials, providing medical care, and disseminating knowledge about tropical diseases to the population. 

DOCUMENTARY PRODUCTION

Our research group, LIPeSQ, has extensive experience in producing documentaries on infectious diseases such as malaria and HIV. We understand the importance of effectively communicating complex scientific information to the public and we believe that documentaries are a powerful tool for achieving this goal. Our team consists of experienced researchers, filmmakers, and communicators who work together to produce documentaries that are both informative and engaging.
